Historical Context
For nearly three decades, Joseph Haydn served the Esterházy family, whose patronage helped shape one of the most remarkable careers in classical music. This program features two piano trios dedicated to members of the Esterházy family, followed by Beethoven’s Piano Trio in C Minor, Op. 1, No. 3, whose first publication was supported by subscribers that included members of the Esterházys. The concert concludes with the presentation of the Hungarian Esterházy Torte, a celebrated 19th century dessert created in honor of the Esterházy family, highlighting the enduring cultural legacy of one of Europe’s great aristocratic dynasties.
